Joe G is No More & I am Smarter than You

Two seemingly unrelated stories emerged on the blogs today. First and most startling, Joe G announced his retirement as a podcaster and a blogger!

Stating the rising costs of production (financial and time constraints), the decrease in audience, the commercialization of podcasting, his transition into the profession of psychology (or astro-psycho-physics, or whatever his field), and the phenomenon of pod-fade, he concluded that the time has come to hang up his headphones and iriver. (He does hint that he will not completely fade away himself but will reemerge in another cyber life form)

In LA last June Joe G evangelized podcasting to me trying to get me to board the podcast bandwagon. I told him it took too much time and money. Besides I'd rather ride on the backs of other podcasters having them to do all the hard work while I provide material and talent. (So the question remains, where do I go from here????)

Please visit Joe's latest (final????) post, and leave an endearing or obnoxious message (or both). And download his podcasts while you can; he's pulling the plug on the whole operation very soon!

hat tip to QuakerQuaker (who still has Joe G, formally known as a Quaker, listed as a team member, perhaps in hopes of luring him back to the Light.)

In other news... Now here I thought it was because I was better than most people, turns out it is simply because I am just more intelligent. The Independent reports,
It’s official - vegetarians really are smarter. But it is not because of what they eat. Bright children are more likely to reject meat and opt to become vegetarians when they grow up, a study has shown. Clever veggies are born not made.
The article goes on to discuss the intelligence factor leading to health benefits of a meat-free diet.
"Our finding that children with greater intelligence are more likely to report being vegetarian as adults, coupled with the evidence on the potential health benefits of a vegetarian diet, may help to explain why higher IQ in childhood or adolescence is linked with a reduced risk of coronary heart disease in adult life."
That info along with the Independent's recent piece about Cow 'emissions' more damaging to planet than CO2 from cars proves that vegans are the smartest of them all. So since soy makes someone gay, AND vegetarians are smarter than meat eaters, no wonder the carnivorous anti-gay Religious Right is always on the defensive.

If cows are the source of the problem, then they need to be eaten.

I wanted to be a vegetarian as a child but I was smart enough to grow up from those kind of thoughts.

You know I read the same thing about vegetarians on another blog not to long ago.

I will agree that cows are causing a lot of problems and that we are eating way to much meat. But i kind of wonder if it would make a difference if the herds were fed grass like there supposed to in fields instead of being jammed into stalls and force fed corn (not something ther body is supposed to be digesting). When a cow poops in a field the poop returns to the earth in a year or so. The cow grows slower but the meat they produce is healthier. Commercial farms are stuffing something down there throats there bodies were not intended to digest. They grow faster on a richer diet but they also get sick. Often a cows liver has so many abscesses in it when its slaughtered it isn't usable which is why you don't see many for sale in the grocery store.

Sorry thats just me ranting again. I hate commercial farms. But i recently heard on the news my states government is argueing with states along the Arkansas river because there dumping the manure from there commercial farms into the Arkansas river. Thats nice isn't it! That water feeds Dardanelle lake along with a few others I am sure. No wonder the water is the color shit! Residents and vacationers are swimming in this "shitty water". I swim in mountain lakes now which are fed by rivers that run throughthe mountains and not contaminated by commercial farms. The water in them is clear and a deep blue green. There are people out there using the manure from there heards of cows to create electricity but these commercial farms are dumping it into the rivers. Sorry Peter I didn't mean to rant, this is just s subject that frustrates me a lot!
kj, humility is one of my superpowers.
dragonfly, seems like a worthy rant. commercial farming is dreadful for so many reasons.

I'll never take Joe off the QuakerQuaker homepage. He'll be back. I know he will. He's got to come back, sniff sniff sniff.

It's funny to see both the blogosphere and podcasting evolving to such an extent that we're seeing turnover. I'm used to this on bulletin boards where the average committed user interest seems to be about four months.

My Gay Husband--A Spouse Speaks Out

The other day I received the following e-mail from Susanne, a woman who found out her some years ago that her husband has same-sex attractions. I felt so moved by her words that I asked her permission to share them with you on the blog. I (recently) saw your Doin Time... and I was the one who asked about your wife during the discussion period that followed. I just read your thoughts on What About the Spouse ....and I can say, most women who find out their husbands are gay feel ALL of those things you wondered about....some in more degrees than others... When my husband was dragged out of the closet because of his irreverent, immoral, and amoral behavior that our, then, 14 and 16 year old sons had to find on our home computer, I went into the closet. I didn't know what to pray for.... Do I pray that this will go away? Do I pray that he could go back to the way things were in our family before we knew about him,? Do I pray that I could go back to the way things were? After all ,...

The False Image of LIA

John Smid and me-Graduation 1998 (above) & John Smid today (left) By now many have heard that Tennessee's Department of Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities determined that the "ex-gay" program, Love in Action, is operating two “unlicensed mental health supportive living facilities”. LIA has until Friday, September 23 to respond. If LIA statements in Eartha Jane Melzer's article are indicative to how the "change" program might respond, we may see LIA change right before our eyes from a clinical mental health compound into a house of praise and worship. Gerard Wellman, business administrator for Love in Action, and a former Love in Action client, said Sept. 13 that the organization has been in contact with the state but would not comment further. “As a church, we operate under a different set of rules,” Wellman said. Curious, and what rules might these be? What is even more curious is that according to LIA's site only one staff member ...

Puzzled

Last night I performed Transfigurations-Transgressing Gender in the Bible at Imago Dei Metropolitan Community Church in Glen Mills, PA (about 15 miles outside of Philly). I had a diverse audience of about 45 people -- college students, Quakers, straight, bi, trans and lesbian, young and old. I took my time with the piece maintaining a gentle meditative pace. For the ending when I reveal the identity of the narrator, I had instructed the light tech to dim the lights. Then as the closing music swelled, I asked her to raise the lights to their brigthest intensity. With the music playing, I exited. Always (up until last night) at this point the audience applauds, I wait 5 seconds then come out to take a bow. Last night I exited and then nothing. No one clapped. They sat quietly as the music played. I stood back stage puzzled, baffled. Now what do I do? Wait? Go out anyway? And I wondered for a moment, Did they hate it? Did I confuse them? Offend them? Bore them into a coma? After what ...
