Telling My Story Everywhere I Can

Believe it or not, I am in Los Angeles today (photo of view from my room above). I left cold and snowy New York early this morning and now I am in sunny West Hollywood. I am here for two days (more about that in a future post), but basically I have another opportunity to tell my story. I am really thrilled. I will also have dinner tomorrow tonight with Steven Fales, the creator of the one-person play, Confessions of a Mormon Boy which is currently running out here in Los Angeles.

Hopefully I will get to see Joe G, Daniel Gonzales and Eric too before I head back to New York tomorrow night.(Check out Daniel's latest video expose).

Mara Schiavocampo who produces short films for Current TV, recently filmed me in NYC telling my story. She splices my story with black and white scenes from my play as well as an interview with John Smid of Love in Action. (See below). You can vote for this piece to air on the channel and not just the web site.

So crazy! Can't turn on the tv anymore without running into a feature about you.

Careful, you might get overexposed, like Britney... ;-)

Also, while you might not think of it as ministry, you do end up ministering to many people.

I don't think there is such a thing like overexposure .. overexposiong .. to much attention :) when it comes to Peterson. And I agree with Tom, he does minister, but in a very very good way.

actually the shaved head thing, I started that. Of course it never got in all the papers, but I shaved it off long ago.

So glad I have that country I can always go to when this should my own wear me out.

Does it ever get boring to say over and over again, "I became a born-again Christian when I was 17"? :)

The False Image of LIA

John Smid and me-Graduation 1998 (above) & John Smid today (left) By now many have heard that Tennessee's Department of Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities determined that the "ex-gay" program, Love in Action, is operating two “unlicensed mental health supportive living facilities”. LIA has until Friday, September 23 to respond. If LIA statements in Eartha Jane Melzer's article are indicative to how the "change" program might respond, we may see LIA change right before our eyes from a clinical mental health compound into a house of praise and worship. Gerard Wellman, business administrator for Love in Action, and a former Love in Action client, said Sept. 13 that the organization has been in contact with the state but would not comment further. “As a church, we operate under a different set of rules,” Wellman said. Puzzled

Last night I performed Transfigurations-Transgressing Gender in the Bible at Imago Dei Metropolitan Community Church in Glen Mills, PA (about 15 miles outside of Philly). I had a diverse audience of about 45 people -- college students, Quakers, straight, bi, trans and lesbian, young and old. I took my time with the piece maintaining a gentle meditative pace. For the ending when I reveal the identity of the narrator, I had instructed the light tech to dim the lights. Then as the closing music swelled, I asked her to raise the lights to their brigthest intensity. With the music playing, I exited. Always (up until last night) at this point the audience applauds, I wait 5 seconds then come out to take a bow. Last night I exited and then nothing. No one clapped.
