This, That & the Other

I spent most of the day in bed with Lucinda Williams, (she released a new album yesterday). Lots of snow kept me indoors as I prepped to go to Greensboro, NC to present at Guilford College and the Mid-Winter Gathering of LGBT Quakers.

I have been thinking of Anna HP's question about why a queer person would be part of an insitution like the Church after all the abuse the the Church heaped on us. Since I am on my PDA, I will have to wait to answer, but it is a good question to consider.

Daniel C from Sweden e-mailed me about some prize the Rainbow Festival won and congratulated me, but I am a little confused with the Swedish article he linked.

I heard word today that in Friday's edition of People Magazine they will feature Daniel Gonzales and me (yes we are the real fathers of Anna Nicole Smith's child.) No it is a bout Ted Haggard and the ex-gay movement.

Now I sign off to read some of John Woolman's diary before I go to sleep.

Peterson, The Rainbow festival was awarded at the annual QX-gala two days ago, a prize called the Öresundsaward. You can read all about that in my blog when you isn't on your what's-it-called .. okay .. mostly how angry I am that Wonk didn't get "nightclub of the year" :) And I am glad that my question got you thinking .. looking forward to your thoughts on it.

Oh it wasnt much more than the list of the winner..
If you scroll down it will say
"Öresundspriset: Regnbågsfestivalen"
wich means
Öresundsaward: Rainbowfestival

As Anna said, most of the time the price go to Wonk, or to other night clubs in Copenhagen. It was nice for a bit of change..

John Smid and me-Graduation 1998 (above) & John Smid today (left) By now many have heard that Tennessee's Department of Mental Health & Developmental Disabilities determined that the "ex-gay" program, Love in Action, is operating two “unlicensed mental health supportive living facilities”. LIA has until Friday, September 23 to respond. If LIA statements in Eartha Jane Melzer's article are indicative to how the "change" program might respond, we may see LIA change right before our eyes from a clinical mental health compound into a house of praise and worship. Puzzled

Last night I performed Transfigurations-Transgressing Gender in the Bible at Imago Dei Metropolitan Community Church in Glen Mills, PA (about 15 miles outside of Philly). I had a diverse audience of about 45 people -- college students, Quakers, straight, bi, trans and lesbian, young and old. I took my time with the piece maintaining a gentle meditative pace. For the ending when I reveal the identity of the narrator, I had instructed the light tech to dim the lights. Then as the closing music swelled, I asked her to raise the lights to their brigthest intensity. With the music playing, I exited. Always (up until last night) at this point the audience applauds, I wait 5 seconds then come out to take a bow. Last night I exited and then nothing. No one clapped.
