Curse Harry Potter!

You may be wondering why I have not blogged since Friday or answered any of your e-mails or responded to your voicemails. It really isn't my fault; I am under a sinister spell.

Yeah the last Harry Potter book. It has the power to suck up your time like dementors suck up the joy and happiness in the world. But Potter GIVES joy. Actually no. I feel no joy reading this book, rather I feel an insane compulsion to read and miss meals and ignore the Internet. Crazy.

Right now I am in Tampa, Florida with Tom D (aka anonymous) who has put me up in lavish style way beyond my normal Quaker plain ways. I even have a hot tub at my disposal.

I also met up with some very nice people in Sarasota and here (hey Barbara,Ray, Robin & Robin, David & David, Stacy & Shawn, Tom Murray & Vince and Dustin!).

So that's it. Yes, Harry, I'm coming!

Peterson, this will undoubtedly mortify you. Read on at your peril.

Last week, the day after Deathly Hallows came out, I was picking up a couple of things at the grocery store and walked by a display of the books. Impulsively, I picked up a copy, flipped to the last chapter, and then *gasp* read all the way through to the end.

Am I a horrible person or what?

(Did I mention that I haven't even read book six yet?)

I love Harry Potter. Have you seen the new film yet? It has some excellent character acting in it - I love it.

I finished the book last week - it is such compulsive reading. Have you got to the end yet?

Haha, well it isn't a real spell unless you suddenly had an urge to eat a hamburger, and I don't mean vegetarian either. :-D

And Harry Potter...(horrified look), hand in your Christian ID card right now! ;-)

I am sorry, I feel that I've had somewhat of " ett finger med i spelet" as we say in swedish (meaning, I am somewhat responsible for this obsession). We are reading the book simultaniously (why not just get two copies of it) and we saw "Order of the phoneix" yesterday. Haven't finished Deathly Hallows yet so now spoilers please .. but I hope you enjoy it :)

Harry Potter occupied a lot of my time this past week as well. Fortunately I was traveling, so I would have been spending all of that airline and hotel time reading something in any case.

Great ending to the series; I'll say no more so as not to spoil it for anyone who hasn't finished the book yet...

Never been able to get into the HP phenomenon. Mostly, my personal library is made up of queer-related literature. And little of it is fictional.

Lucky duck. Hot tub and Deathly Hallows. I'm not going to have time to sit down and devour said work for another 2 weeks. OTOH, I am getting access to a hot tub this weekend, as well as some lovely kayaking (or possibly canoeing. It will all depend on what's available at the canoe livery on Saturday morning.)

phew! I finished the book. Really was under a spell of sorts. So many surprises. The gay kiss really shocked me as did Mrs. Weasely's born-again Christian conversion experience. And that cameo by Posh Spice. Wild.

Fun ride and a nice excursion. Now back to real life and dirty laundry and bills to pay. Hmm, the Elder Wand would be a good thing right about now (or an Invisibility Cloak).

Oh, and Ally, you are not a horrible person for reading the ending. Actually the book is enchanted so that if you read the end before reading the rest (or read out of sequence), the enchantment actually changes the ending. So you know nothing. :-P

Label me, trying not to feel superior for avoiding the Potter maelstrom. ;-)

Hey, I got swallowed up by Lord of the Rings, Chronicles of Narnia, and the Earthsea Cycle and a couple of others years and years ago. Been there, done that, I'm over my fantasy limit! :-D

Agreed, Peterson, satisfying ending. Your longing for the Elder Wand leaves me concerned. However, once, while attending a church that was going through a months long 'discernment" process regarding all matters GLBT (What else?), I longed for a cloak of invisibility.

Puzzled

Last night I performed Transfigurations-Transgressing Gender in the Bible at Imago Dei Metropolitan Community Church in Glen Mills, PA (about 15 miles outside of Philly). I had a diverse audience of about 45 people -- college students, Quakers, straight, bi, trans and lesbian, young and old. I took my time with the piece maintaining a gentle meditative pace. For the ending when I reveal the identity of the narrator, I had instructed the light tech to dim the lights. Then as the closing music swelled, I asked her to raise the lights to their brigthest intensity. With the music playing, I exited. Always (up until last night) at this point the audience applauds, I wait 5 seconds then come out to take a bow. Last night I exited and then nothing. No one clapped.
